Municipal Elections 2018

The 2018 municipal elections in Ontario were held on October 22, 2018. Voters in the Town of South Bruce Peninsula overwhelmingly returned our Mayor Janice Jackson, Deputy Mayor Jay Kirkland and councilor Paul Mackenzie to their seats.  As well, candidates for councilor, Terry Bell and Kathy Durst were each elected to their first term on council.  We congratulate these candidates for their win and thank them for their professionalism and integrity during the campaign.

Elections 2018 - Councillor

Caleb Hull:

Caleb Hull – Horticulturalist and owner of The Wiarton Tea Company Encouraging people to be healthy, engaged within their community, and continually learning will bring a desired depth to South Bruce Peninsula. It is time to develop our current roadways/sidewalks to be safe for children and adults of all abilities to access education, healthcare, and social events all-year long.

Nurturing a culture of healthy living within our community will give Practitioners, current and new, confidence that we are truly receptive of the care they offer. This means encouraging healthy eating, access to exercise, outlets for artistic expression, improved waste management/recycling, and other efforts that move us towards a greener tomorrow.

Updating the website/social media to include surveys, promotions, efficient emergency communications, etc. as well as rescheduling and live broadcasting council meetings would allow for citizens (year-round or cottagers), to be engaged in the decisions within South Bruce Peninsula.

Terry Bell:

TEAM WORK:

CREATE A COUNCIL THAT FUNCTIONS AS A TEAM TO ADDRESS THE ISSUES THAT IMPACT OUR COMMUNITY.

INCLUSIVENESS:

TREAT EVERY CITIZEN YOUNG, SENIOR, WEALTHY, POOR, HOMELESS, HUNGRY, ADDICTED WITH RESPECT AND HUMILITY AND LISTEN TO THEIR VOICES.

COMMUNITY INPUT:

PROVIDE MORE OPPORTUNITIES FOR COMMUNITY INPUT IN THE DECISION MAKING PROCESSES. GIVE CITIZENS THE OPPORTUNITY TO EXPRESS THEIR CONCERNS IN AN OPEN, WELCOMING FORUM WHERE COUNCIL’S ROLE IS SIMPLY TO LISTEN.

COMMUNITY SAFETY:

MY BACKGROUND IS IN COMMUNITY SERVICE AND PUBLIC SAFETY. WE NEED TO CONTINUE OUR EFFORTS IN THOSE AREAS. MOST RECENTLY 6 HWY. COLLISIONS AND SAUBLE BEACH ISSUES. WE NEED MORE POLICE VISIBILITY AND A SUMMER DETACHMENT AT SAUBLE BEACH. THE BRUCE PENINSULA SAFE COMMUNITIES COMMITTIEE IS DEDICATED TO ACHIEVING THOSE GOALS.

UTILIZE EXISTING RESOURCES:

STRIVE TO MAKE EFFECTIVE USE OF OUR SENIOR POPULATION WHOSE WEALTH OF KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND INSIGHT CAN BE AN INVALUABLE ASSET TO OUR COMMUNITY

YOUTH INPUT:

CREATE AN OPPORTUNITY FOR A YOUTH ADVISORY COMPONENT IN COUNCIL IN COLLABRATION WITH P.S.D.S THAT CAN REFLECT CONTEMPORY CONCERNS AS IDENTIFIED BY OUR YOUTH.

Tyler Olmstead

Hello residents of Sauble Beach! My name is Tyler Olmstead and I am running for The Town of South Bruce Peninsula Council. I’m a lifelong resident of the town, living in Allenford, Sauble Beach, and currently Hepworth. I have completed two college diplomas, first in Firefighting from the Ontario Fire Academy, and the second from the CTS Canadian Career College Paramedic program, obtaining my AEMCA Certification. Currently, I work as a Patient Transfer Attendant with Voyago Transportation in Owen Sound, and as a Flight Paramedic on the fixed wing air ambulance out of Kitchener. My family goes back four generations, all residing in the area. My grandfather John served Wiarton as a constable with the OPP for 30 years. He was my role model and taught me integrity, which is a KEY attribute of a good Councillor. I plan to bring this attribute and more to the table if elected. I plan on working for residents to get all Municipal taxpayers a paid parking pass and by looking at adding an Ambulance bay in Sauble Beach to better provide life safety services. To find out more about my platform policies, visit my Facebook page “Tyler Olmstead for TSBP council”. Lastly, I respectfully ask for your support in this election and I look forward to meeting you.
